We cover a section of a superhighway, so high speed crashes are always a possibility there, as well as accidents on any of the streets and roads in the district. We try to train regularly with extrication tools, and here we were given the assignment of raising a Jersey barrier 18" with our available tools.
A State course hosted at our station with New Paltz Fire Dept. Our instructor wanted as much realism as possible, so in the middle of one session we had a ripping thunderstorm complete with downpour.
We train with our neighbor, Hurley Fire Dept, and here we were working on car fires. By working and training with them, both departments gain familiarity and confidence in the other department and its members, as well as sharing ideas and techniques.
